Editorial Policy

HVAC Switch exists to help homeowners make a big, expensive decision with information they can check. This page explains how we research, write and update our content.

Who is behind the content

HVAC Switch is an independent website run by Alex Ivov, based in Madrid, Spain. We are not an HVAC contractor, and no manufacturer, distributor or installer pays for, reviews or approves our content before it is published.

Sources we use

  • Official sources first: the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, the Environmental Protection Agency, the IRS, state energy offices, utility rebate programs and the AHRI Directory of certified equipment.
  • Manufacturer documents: specification sheets, installation manuals and warranty terms.
  • Cost data: installed prices vary widely, so we compare several published cost sources and show a range instead of a single number. We always name the sources.
  • At the end of every article you’ll find our sources with links and the date we last checked them.

Prices, calculations and calculators

  • Prices are shown as ranges with the date they were checked.
  • When we calculate a cost or a saving, we list the assumptions: home size, climate, equipment efficiency and energy prices.
  • Our calculators run in your browser, explain their inputs and give approximate results. They don’t replace a quote from a licensed contractor.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t publish made-up reviews, testimonials or product tests.
  • We don’t accept payment to mention or rank a brand.
  • We don’t give advice that requires inspecting your home. For that, you need a licensed HVAC contractor.

Updates and corrections

  • We review rebate and regulation content regularly, and update year-specific articles every January.
  • Each article shows the date it was last updated.
  • If you find a mistake, tell us through our contact page. We check every report, fix confirmed errors and note significant changes in the article.

Advertising

The site is funded by Google AdSense ads, which are labeled and selected by Google. Advertisers don’t influence our content. We don’t use affiliate links today; if that changes, we will disclose it here and in every affected article.
