The three product tiers explained
In short, Trane groups its heat pumps into three tiers. First of all, the Choice line uses single-stage compressors, which run at full capacity or shut off. Next, the Priority line uses multi-speed compressors, which Trane describes as a good middle option. Finally, the Premier line uses variable-speed compressors that, according to Trane, can run anywhere from 25% to 100% of capacity and hold the temperature within about a quarter of a degree of the setting.
As a result, Premier models are the quietest and most precise, while Choice models cost the least. For a deeper look at the trade-offs, see variable-speed vs single-stage systems.
What Trane heat pump prices include
To be clear, Trane’s figures are national averages that include the unit and labor, before tax, but not thermostats or accessories. As a result, your quote can be higher or lower depending on:
- System size: bigger homes need more capacity; therefore, get a Manual J load calculation.
- Indoor equipment: a heat pump also needs a matched air handler or furnace coil.
- Ductwork and electrical work: similarly, repairs, new ducts or a panel upgrade add cost.
- Dealer and region: moreover, labor rates vary across the country.
- Rebates: finally, utility rebates and, when replacing electric equipment, federal HEEHR rebates (formerly HEAR) may lower the price, although the federal tax credit ended for equipment installed after 2025.
Warranty coverage
In general, Trane heat pumps come with 5 years of parts coverage if unregistered, or 10 years if you register within 60 days, with up to 12 years on select compressors. However, Trane’s standard warranties don’t cover labor, so ask your dealer about a labor warranty.
