Goodman heat pump review: Goodman is one of the lowest-priced major brands, with heat pump units at $1,100 to $3,900 before installation in HomeGuide’s data, and its current R-32 lineup ranges from up to 15.2 SEER2 on basic models to up to 21 SEER2 on the variable-speed GZV9S. Its registered warranties are strong for the price: 10 years on parts, and on most higher-tier models a 10-year unit replacement. For most budget-minded homeowners, that makes Goodman worth a serious look, provided the installer is good.
In this Goodman heat pump review, we cover the lineup, prices, warranty, strengths and weaknesses, and we compare it with premium brands. Specs and terms checked on November 4, 2026.
Goodman heat pump review: the lineup
| Model | Style and compressor | Efficiency (up to) |
|---|---|---|
| GZV9S | Side discharge, variable-speed | 21 SEER2 |
| GZV7S | Side discharge, variable-speed | 19 SEER2, 8.8 HSPF2 |
| GZV6S | Side discharge, variable-speed | 19 SEER2, 8.8 HSPF2 |
| GLZT7C | Cube, two-stage scroll | 17.5 SEER2, 8.2 HSPF2 |
| GLZS5B | Cube, scroll | 16 SEER2, 8.2 HSPF2 |
| GLZS4M / GLZS4B | Cube, scroll | 15.2 SEER2, 7.8 HSPF2 |
In other words, Goodman covers the full range from basic single-stage units to variable-speed models. However, its top HSPF2 ratings listed in the brochure, up to 8.8, are lower than the 10 to 10.5 HSPF2 that premium brands list for their best heat pumps. As a result, Goodman’s variable-speed models may be a better fit for moderate climates than for the coldest regions, where a dedicated cold-climate model may be worth more.

Goodman heat pump review: is it worth it?
For many homes, yes. Overall, our Goodman heat pump review finds that the brand delivers mainstream efficiency and good warranty coverage at a lower price. However, in very cold climates or if you want the quietest, most efficient system, compare it with premium models. Either way, the installer matters most, since installation quality has a big effect on real-world performance.
