Contractor and homeowner compare two outdoor units and price sheets for a Goodman vs Trane decision.

Goodman vs Trane: Goodman is the budget-friendly choice, while Trane is a premium brand with more high-end options. PICKHVAC puts installed Goodman ACs at $3,200 to $5,000, compared with $4,000 to $9,000 for Trane, and HomeGuide lists Goodman AC units at $1,200 to $3,000 versus $1,600 to $5,800 for Trane before installation. Goodman also offers a lifetime compressor warranty on select registered models, so the price gap doesn’t automatically mean weaker coverage.

Below, we compare prices, warranties, product range and ownership, and we explain when the extra cost of Trane is worth it. Prices and terms checked on November 4, 2026.

Price: Goodman vs Trane

Above all, Goodman’s main selling point is price. For example, at the midpoint of PICKHVAC’s ranges, a Goodman AC installation costs about $4,100, compared with about $6,500 for Trane. Similarly, HomeGuide’s furnace prices start at $600 for Goodman and $1,200 for Trane.

Trane, on the other hand, publishes national averages for its own lines: $6,568 to $8,544 for the single-stage Choice AC, $8,573 to $10,671 for the multi-stage Priority and $11,525 to $13,669 for the variable-speed Premier, including labor. As a result, the gap is smallest at the entry level and largest when you compare premium systems.

Warranty: Goodman vs Trane

  • Goodman: 5 years of parts coverage without registration, or 10 years if you register within 60 days. In addition, select models add a lifetime compressor warranty and a 10-year unit replacement warranty for the original registered owner. Goodman says you don’t need to register in California, Florida, Georgia and Quebec.
  • Trane: 5 years of parts coverage without registration, or 10 years with registration within 60 days, and up to 12 years on select compressors. Trane doesn’t cover labor unless you buy an extended warranty.

In other words, Goodman’s top warranties can be more generous than Trane’s standard terms. However, warranty terms vary by model, so check the exact model number in each quote.

Product range and features

To begin with, Trane’s lineup spans single-stage, multi-stage and variable-speed systems, with its Premier AC rated up to 24 SEER2 and its Premier 20 heat pump up to 22.4 SEER2 and 10.5 HSPF2. Goodman also sells a range of efficiency levels, including models that qualify for its lifetime compressor coverage. Meanwhile, both brands sell air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces and air handlers.

Is the Trane price difference worth it?

  • Choose Goodman if price matters most, you want a strong registered warranty for the money or you’re replacing equipment in a rental or a home you may sell.
  • Choose Trane instead if you want a top-tier variable-speed system, very high SEER2 ratings or a dealer network you trust in your area.
  • In every case, compare the installer’s experience and labor warranty, because neither brand’s standard warranty covers labor.
